I have now started working on the next City & Guild course. If you enter the DesignMatters' website, you will find the description under "Online Courses". I am now taking the "7922-03 Level 3 Patchwork and Quilting Certificate". Just as in the first course, we start by dyeing fabrics. Of all the things I have learned the last year, "Low immersion dyeing" is one of my favourites. On the picture you can see the fabrics during the dye-treatment in plastic bags and small containers.
After dyeing, it was time to rinse out excess dye. Rinse - and rinse - and rinse once more. The exciting part is when I unfold the fabrics before hanging them up to dry.
One thing I have learned - you never know how the result will be until the fabric is dry. Quite often it will turn out much lighter than you thought it would! This fabric I ironed dry - the right side is dry, while the left side is still quite moist.
The course activity was to dye plain colour fabrics, but I also had fun using two colours. My mother would like me to make her a new handbag for her birthday - do you like any of these fabrics, mom?
I had used all my white fabrics, and still had more dye solution left - so I looked at my fabric stash and found some that I could overdye.
